Brethren,
Well,
this is it! It's been a mad dash throughout the year, and now I'm looking at
the back door. On December 15 at 7:00PM we will have the Election of
Officers to continue our work with new beginnings.
Last month, we had our Annual Banquet, which was a happy evening of good food and great friends, and I want to thank Bro. Chuck Canning for his insightful speech. Our two honorees were Bro. Bob Hoffman, PM 9wm hoty Award) for his tremendous help and support during this year, and Bro. Skip Breitfeld, PM (Mason of the Year) for being a true friend and Brother throughout my journey. I also want to thank Bro. Ralph Slider, DDGM for his absolute dedication to Freemasonry as he retires this December. As I was thinking about this message, I remembered a quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the famous German Lutheran Pastor who was executed by the Nazis towards the end of World War II. He said, "First they came for the Communists, but I was not a communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak for me." It struck me in three ways: one, we need a sense of identity; two, we can not let our individual identities cause barriers; three, if we do not speak out for who we are - whether as individuals or a fraternity - who will speak up for us? Do we care enough to continue? Thank you for your encouragement this past year, and thanks to all the Officers and Past Masters who have worked so diligently to maintain this Lodge. Please show your support at our Stated Meeting for Bro. Brian J. Wiener, and all the Officers who will move up a chair. And I wish you blessed holy days and a happy new year. Fraternally, Russell Jackson, WM
