It was my distinct honor to
assist our DDGM, Brother Ralph H. Slider, Sr., PM, who was accompanied by
Worshipful Masters of the 10th Masonic District, in presenting
50-year service emblems to Brothers Robert W. Norris and Mark T. Reitz.
I also want to congratulate the other 50-year and 25-year members that
were unable to attend our Stated Meeting to receive their service awards.
For those 50-year members that weren’t able to attend, I will be
contacting you in the very near future to present you with your 50-year service
emblem. The other newest 50-year
members are Joseph Avrich, Charles Boyer, Paul Diehl, and Donald Hontz.
The 25-year members are Donald Koch II, David Kohler, Herbert Mohr,
Robert Rebeck, Guy Saxton, Norvin Vogel, and Daniel Weaver.
If you should meet them in your travels, please wish them a hearty
congratulation.
We are again attracting a large number of petitioners.
At last months Stated Meeting, we read four new petitions.
Be sure to follow the schedule of degree work and come out to support
your lodge officers and the new candidates.
We all know how much time our officers put in learning to confer the
three degrees, it would really be a shot in the arm if our members would come
out and watch the fine work these officers are doing, congratulate the new
candidates, and at the same time brush up on the degrees.
For some of the Brethren who haven’t heard a degree recently, there
have been a few subtle changes in the words. First line signers are EXPECTED to
attend.
Coming up this month will be
our annual golf tourney on May 17th at Shepherd Hills.
It may be too late to register to play golf by the time you receive the
lodge notice, but call me directly to check if there are any open tee times.
If you are not a golfer but would like to participate you can do so by
being a sponsor for a hole. Any
questions about sponsoring a hole can be made by contacting Rick Roesser or me
for more information. This year, we
will be making donations from the golf tourney to support Alliance Hall and the
Allentown Rescue Mission.
The program for this month’s Stated Meeting will be presented by our
Secretary, Robert Hoffman, III, PM. With Memorial Day approaching soon after our
Stated Meeting, it is important to remember our soldiers.
Once again, we will be having a dinner before the Stated Meeting
beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Compass and Square Banquet Hall, located in the
lower level of the
Temple
. As usual, Stewards will report
after the meeting as well. If you
are planning to attend the dinner please RSVP either the Jr. Warden or me so we
can have enough food to go around. We
can be contacted either by e-mail or phone.
If you e-mail us, use the lodge web-site and send it to:
jw or wm @greenleaflodge561.org.
The thought of the month for May is the following from St. Thomas District
of Ontario:
“Ten Master Masons, happy doing fine; one listened to a rumor then there
were nine. Nine Master Masons,
faithful, never late; one didn’t like the Master, then there were eight.
Eight Master Masons, on their way to Heaven; one joined too many clubs
then there were seven. Seven Master
Masons, life dealt some hard licks; one grew discouraged then there were six;.
Six Master Masons all very much alive; one lost his interest then there
were five. Five Master Masons
wishing they were more; they got into a great dispute then there were four.
Four Master Masons busy as could be; one didn’t like the programs then
there were three. Three Master
Masons, was one of them you? One
grew tired of all the work then there were two.
Two Master Masons with so much to be done; one said, “What’s the
use” then there was one. One
Master Mason found a brother true; brought him to the lodge then there were two.
Two Master Masons didn’t find the work a bore; each brought another one
then there were four. Four Master
Masons saved their lodges fate; by showing others kindnesses then there were
eight. Eight Master Masons loved
their lodges’ sheen; talked so much about it they soon were sixteen.
Sixteen Master Masons to their obligation true; all were very pleased
whey they grew to thirty two.”
Sincerely and Fraternally,
James A. Barbour, Worshipful Master
